Longtime NDP Nanaimo—North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley announced he will not run again in 2024 after almost 20 years in the legislature, first as the MLA for Cowichan-Ladysmith then for the Nanaimo—North Cowichan riding created prior to the 2017 election.
Routley said health issues, including arrhythmia, and his age factored into his decision; he would be 67 at the end of the next term. He told the Chemainus Valley Courier he is looking forward to spending more time with his partner Leanne Finlayson, who is the constituency assistant for federal NDP Cowichan-Malahat-Langford MP Alistair MacGregor.
