At the close of the first week with four official parties in the legislature, Premier David Eby had harsh words for the BC Conservatives, calling John Rustad and Bruce Banman’s comments around sexual orientation and gender identity “toxic in a way that we have not seen for a very long time in this province.”
“It is self-serving political interest and it is the crassest thing I’ve ever seen and I’ve been here for 10 years,” he told reporters.
Ebay added his government is doing its best to head off the misinformation campaign the Conservatives have taken up.
“This is a threat to our ability to get things done, a threat to our ability to work together as citizens on the big challenges we face,” said Eby.
He said he hopes British Columbians see the “the extreme views that are being promoted by this party and to some extent supported tangentially by [BC United]” and realize that this is a dead end for the province.
